In 2013, Balance created the first ever Center for Community Supported Living (CCSL) in Southeastern Wisconsin. It was developed in response to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities navigating through the current contracted service system and its budget constraints. The Center offers a “drop-in” venue – a welcoming space that individuals can visit to seek assistance and make social connections. The program was developed to address the gap in recreational and social opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities who live in the community. The program is funded through grants and donations.
The CCSL remains fully operational, having become an important part of the menu of programs for a number of individuals. Those that regularly attend have developed a real camaraderie that has translated into activities outside of the CCSL. This is the main point of the Center, to be a catalyst for friendships beyond organized events.
