Current Volunteer Needs:

What volunteers mean to Balance:

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Balance utilizes volunteers to operate efficiently and effectively. The greater the number of volunteers we have, the greater the number of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities we can support.

We also believe volunteerism is an essential part of a full life and we strive to have our program participants and residents engage with their communities (Ozaukee County) as volunteers.

Volunteers can help us in these areas:

  • Summer Recreation Program - Be a volunteer “buddy” during our Children’s Summer Recreation program. These volunteers act as adventure partners and assist in keeping children with special needs safe and joyous during outings. Every day is a field trip to places like the Milwaukee County Zoo, waterparks, lakes, playgrounds, museums, and splash pads.

  • Adult Day Program & Children’s Social Skills Program - Come and share your skills or expertise with our day program participants and/or children’s program participants. Volunteers can teach short classes like cooking, baking, or card making or lead discussions about boundary setting, well-being, or self-care. We ask that you are self-sufficient and can teach or lead the group without significant assistance from staff members. To propose a class idea, please contact Alyse Sandow at asandow@balanceinc.org.

  • Children’s Social Skills Program - Volunteer with our Children’s Social Skills program during the school year and act as a buddy and mentor to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Adult Family Homes - Seasonal yard help at our eight Adult Family Home

Balance participants ARE also volunteers:

Balance’s Adult Day Program participants like to volunteer their time and they are always looking for businesses to partner with. Adult Day Program participants currently volunteer at Crossroads Church in Mequon and at Mequon Nature Preserve.

You can start by filling out a volunteer application or reaching out to us with your questions by emailing Robin Malek at rmalek@balanceinc.org

“I would not want to spend my summer doing anything else. I feel so lucky to have gotten the chance to hang out with the most incredible kids every day through this program and there’s no doubt that I will be back again next year!”
